With the prison population in the UK increasing and the cost to house prisoners choking public finances, a way to lessen that strain is needed, and Gordon Ramsay has a plan. He wants to put prisoners to work and have them pay something back into the system, and `Gordon Behind Bars' aims to teach them the skills to make them more employable on their release. The chef gives the prisoners the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification and then puts them to work in a pilot prison bakery business. By teaching them culinary skills, perhaps a catering job awaits them on the outside. But Gordon quickly realises making the business work won't be a piece of cake.
