Life of Crime

It’s 1985 and Denise is starting life as an idealistic WPC for the Met Police. She’s seconded to work with handsome young plain clothes Detective Sergeant Ray Deans and, while trying to apprehend a suspect, suffers a knock to the head that puts her in hospital. It’s here that Denise bonds with a rebellious young girl named Amy Reid, but their heart to heart is interrupted by a nurse wanting to take Denise for a scan. Returning to A and E, Denise is upset to find that Amy has left the hospital. In the early hours of the morning, the body of a young girl is found in an alley. It is Amy. Feeling responsible, Denise resolves to bring her killer to justice.

It’s 1997 and Denise Woods is now a successful Detective Inspector at Brixton. In an era of ‘cool Britannia’ and ‘Blair’s babes’ she’s ideally placed to climb the ranks, but is struggling to find time for husband and their young daughter. As Denise investigates the recent murder of a young girl, a DNA match blows her old case from 1985 wide open and her whole world is shaken to the core.

It’s 2013 and DCI Denise Woods is investigating the case of a murdered girl, Joanna Andrews, whose body was found after an outdoor gig. Things take a surprising turn when two things emerge. Firstly, a broken down van at the gig is connected to none other than Mike Holland. And secondly, the same ‘unknown’ DNA from 1997 and 1985 is found on Joanna Andrews’ body. Has Mike Holland killed again with the mystery man Denise has been chasing? Suddenly Denise has the opportunity to clear her name, put her demons to rest, and get justice for Amy Reid. But will she risk her career, not to mention further traumatizing the victims’ families?
