Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends

Louis Theroux travels to Dallas to infiltrate the world of the born-again Christian evangelists, and quickly finds himself taking part in a rousing television broadcast and a street crusade, complete with guitar and tambourine. However, he remains unconvinced as to whether he can be saved, even by the angels who, according to his interviewees, are tasked with this job on Earth.

Louis Theroux heads off to Southwest America to hunt out the people who hunt out aliens. In Palm Springs he has an encounter with self-styled 'warrior monk' and alien killer Thor Templar who has notched up 20 alien kills over the years. He then makes makes contact with Ron and Shari from the Centre for the Study of ET Intelligence and joins them on a 'extraterrestrial' field trip.

Intrepid reporter Louis Theroux gets naked and takes up the challenge of 'keeping wood' during an explicit exploration of America's porn industry. He interviews both male and female porn stars about the problems they face before landing himself a fully clothed role in a gay film.

Louis travels to Idaho which is home to a growing number of right-wing patriots and militia enthusiasts who are preparing for what they firmly believe is inevitable global catastrophe. He visits former racing car driver turned patriot Steve Quayle and legendary Colonel Bo Gritz who runs 'Almost Heaven', a mountain-top commune for fellow patriots and survivalists.

Louis Theroux unites four of the characters he met during his Weird Weekends series for a Christmas gathering in New York. The diverse individuals, united only by their singlemindedness, are Mike Oehler, who spent 28 years living in a hole in Idaho but craves success as a folk singer, preacher Randy James, who is planning to save New York from the devil, JJ Michaels, set to feature in a porn shoot, and the Reverend Robert Short, bearing an important message from a distant galaxy.

Louis tries his persuasive marketing skills on the Home Shopping Network in Florida, a television channel devoted to non-stop, around-the-clock selling. He enters a world of inventors, pitch men and visionaries, all obsessed with making their product the next big thing.
