Maria is thrown straight into a murder case when an unidentified man is found on a Gotland beach. An outbreak of bird flu triggers all-out efforts to contain the virus.
There is a riot when Maria and Jonathan meet the parents of the children at the sports field to give their explanation as to why their children have been quarantined. Things get more complicated when a journalist disappears.

In the middle of the Gotland midsummer celebration, a series of bestial murders with occult signs occur. One man is found hanging in the woods with slaughtered animals, while another is found sacrificed in his car in a meadow.
A lawyer on his way home through the Gotland countryside disappears without a trace. A sadistic trap is set up on the premises of an island mink farmer. Is there a link?
