Historian Andrew Roberts presents a three-part miniseries documenting the history of legendary leader Napoleon Bonaparte. Roberts is given access to an archive of Napoleon's personal letters, some of which have never been published. Using the letters and other sources, Roberts steps back in time to re-create Bonaparte's role in Europe's history. The commander's extraordinary military acumen is explored and his private life is exposed to be full of disappointments. The episodes follow his military career from its beginnings in Corsica to his highly progressive modernisation of France during his emperorship.
