Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids

Amanda Owen and her family are granted permission to convert Anty John's, a derelict farmhouse, and builder Richard helps them to plan the renovation. Meanwhile, Amanda teams up with historian Derek to delve into the building's colourful past.

It is October and the first job for builder Richard is to strip off the old roof stones, remove the roof timbers, and add a steel beam. Clive tends to his flock, while Amanda continues her research into the ruin's former resident, Anthony Clarkson.

Amanda and family face re-roofing Anty John's during a fearsome Dales winter, which follows a wet and stormy autumn that leaves the project months behind schedule. The new year brings new cheer, as the build hits a major milestone.

As winter turns to spring, the Owen family balance the pressures of lambing season with the race to get their farmhouse renovation watertight. Builder Richard brings the stonework back to life, using artisan skills to rebuild ancient walls.

The planners agree that renovation can extend into the adjacent barn. Anty John's is set to become a four-bedroom family home. Richard's crew finish the concrete floor, mixing and pouring each barrow by hand. Amanda meets a distant Clarkson relative.

The renovation of Anty John's is about to hit its one-year anniversary, with plenty of work still to do for Richard the builder and the Owen family. The kids will need to help out around the farm too, with dad Clive laid low by a hip operation.
