Ben takes a tiny passenger ferry from mainland Argyll down the length of Loch Sween to arrive on Islay. While the island is famed for its whisky, the island has more distilleries than churches, its links to Christianity are ancient.

Crossing the infamously wild Pentland Firth in blessedly calm conditions, Ben Fogle heads for the Orkney Isles. Orkney has its own distinct Norse Christian saint, Magnus, and Ben meets with Dr Sarah Jane Gibbon at Aikerness Bay to learn about him.

In the final leg of his journey and in a Sacred Islands first, Ben Fogle can drive to his destination rather than sail. The Skye Bridge opened in 1995 and has seen tourist numbers to the island double. Hoping to explore Skye's spiritual heritage, he wants to know what endures today in the face of so many visitors.
