David Hobbs has spent the last decade playing a beloved father on one of TV's biggest sitcoms. When his series ends, he becomes into a stay-at-home dad while, his wife, Amy, returns to her television career.

David runs into a hiccup with his stay-at-home dad responsibilities when he misplaces Janie and must scramble to get her back before Amy finds out.

David tries to suppress his competitive nature when he takes over as the head coach of Joe's rag-tag baseball team. Emily conducts an experiment on her parents for school.

After Joe bails out of yet another sleepover, David helps him conquer his fear of all things scary in order to keep him out of David and Amy's bed at night.

Emily brings home a boy she'd like to date for her parents' approval, and he and David unexpectedly hit it off.

When David and Amy learn Emily is an extra in the school play, they secure her a bigger role even though her performance isn't up to par.
