Her father's disapproval means that the couple have to elope to the Dorset coast with money that Ronnie forced Charmian to steal from her employers. After being caught by police following a dramatic chase, Ronnie is imprisoned and Charmian receives a suspended sentence. After his release, Charmian pleads with Ronnie to turn his back on a life of crime. But money worries force Ronnie to ask an old friend for a loan for a deposit on a house. That friend is Bruce Reynolds, who is planning one of the most famous crimes in British history - the Great Train Robbery of August 1963. When Bruce offers Ronnie 40,000 pounds to provide a train driver for the robbery, he reluctantly accepts.
