Wicket leaves home, joined by his friend Teebo, but after the two move into an old tree fort, they are "haunted" by Shrieks; Kneesaa convinces Wicket and Teebo to treat Latara as if she were a princess for one whole day.

Seeking a costume for the Shadow Night Festival, Wicket removes a golden cap from atop a tree; the moment he takes it, Wicket unwittingly releases a terrible monster, the Raich, from its enchanted form as a harmless tree.

When Wicket whines about having to juice dangleberries, he's approached by a traveller who gives him a totem pole; Wicket and his pals enter an ancient temple to acquire a birthday present for Wicket's mother.

One dark, eerie night, Logray senses the approach of evil; moments later, Wicket & Teebo spy a comet in the sky; arriving at its crash-site in the forest, they find a strange object that clearly once contained someone.

Wicket sneaks off to battle the beast on his own, but soon finds himself captured by tiny creatures called Mimphs; before Teebo, Master Logray had a talented apprentice named Zarrak who was exiled from Bright Tree Village for his evil deeds.
