When veteran detective Danny Frater turns up at a hospital mortuary for what he thinks is a routine ID check, he gets a devastating shock. The deceased, a young woman, turns out to be his estranged daughter.

After breaking into his daughter's apartment, Danny discovers a young woman hiding in the bedroom. She turns out to be Christina's wife, Nicola, and their subsequent conversation reveals much about Christina's dark and complicated life.

Danny finds Maia, who Nicola has accused of corrupting Christina. After questioning Maia, Danny realises that Christina was selling drugs. He uncovers evidence that allows him to leverage Maia into revealing the name of Christina's supplier.

Danny meets Christina's supplier, Jaisal Batra, a corrupt former police officer turned club owner. After hearing about the extent of Christina's criminality, Danny learns that his daughter visited Jaisal's club on the night she died.

Danny discovers that his old friend and corrupt former police partner, Ryan, was deeply entangled with Christina and her drug-dealing activities. Danny suspects Ryan knows more than he's letting on about Christina's death.

The circumstantial evidence that Danny has collected in the course of his encounters leads him to what he expects will be a showdown with Christina's murderer, a former pharmaceutical industry executive, Harry Carr.
