Anna (Lindsay Duncan) takes on a job despite disapproval from her husband Peter (Jonathan Coy) and the people of his parish; based on a novel by Joanna Trollope.

After Peter is passed over for promotion, Anna's resentment surfaces and she takes a job in the local supermarket.

Anna returns from Oxford to find that the parish ladies have meddled with her house.
