The Wright Way

Gerald's day gets off to a bad start. Living with his daughter, Susan, and her new partner, Victoria, is taking its toll on Gerald...not least because Victoria is a bathroom hogger. At work, a rogue speed bump has been identified on the streets of Baselricky, and Gerald's colleague Malika announces her upcoming birthday by inviting gifts from the team with hints as subtle as a sledgehammer. Back home, Susan tries to encourage her dad to move on by getting back on the dating scene. Feeling encouraged, Gerald buys Malika a birthday present, but an unfortunate mix up results in his intended romantic gesture landing him in very hot water.

Gerald and the Health and Safety team are under pressure from the Mayor of Baselricky to prove that playing conkers is dangerous enough to warrant safety measures. Meanwhile, Susan pushes Gerald to invite his ex-wife Valerie and her new boyfriend, Aussie fitness trainer Kyle over for dinner, in order to start repairing the family rift. However, Susan finds Kyle to be less than ideal as a match for her mother and when an announcement from Valerie sends her into a panic, she hatches a plan to get her parents back together again.

The Town Council building is under threat from a mysterious thief who keeps stealing all the toilet paper from the gentlemen's loos. This crime is very distracting for Gerald and his Health and Safety Team, who are hard at work designing a swing that is safe enough to be used in school playgrounds. Meanwhile, back at the Wright household, Susan discovers she is being taken to a tribunal by a disgruntled ex-employer but, ever determined to get her dad back into the dating game, she still finds time to play cupid and tries to set him up with his colleague Malika. However, when Malika asks Gerald out on a date, their potentially romantic evening is inevitably scuppered by Gerald's dedication to his job.

Gerald is bemoaning the fact that he has never managed to author a renowned hazard warning of his very own. However, when he is stabbed in the chest by a pin from a new shirt, he seizes the opportunity, and with Malika's help, sets himself on a mission to convince the mayor that all shirts sold in Baselricky must carry a warning label. Valerie agrees to help Susan and her partner, Victoria, rehearse in secret for the upcoming local Big Ballroom Night dance contest. Gerald and Valerie have been winning every year for ages but now they won't be competing due to their recent divorce. Meanwhile, Malika discovers that her Big Ballroom Night dance partnership with the mayor is in jeopardy.

Gerald and his team decide that kerbs are dangerous trip hazards, while Sue sees another side of her mum's new boyfriend.

Gerald clashes with the Mayor in his fervour to author his own iconic hazard warning. Sue is threatened with industrial action and Victoria's DJ career stalls.
