Twenty Masterpieces of Nature

Listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, the Doñana National Park in Andalusia, Spain is also home to two of the most endangered species on Earth: the Iberian lynx and the Imperial eagle. In nearby wildlife shelters, biologists and veterinarians endeavour to replenish their dwindling numbers through breeding and rehabilitation programs.

Deep in the heart of Brazil lies Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park. To the local residents, this ancient plateau is a sacred, spiritual place. But despite its lush vegetation and abundant rivers, it curiously remains almost entirely devoid of wildlife.

Costa Rica’s Manuel Antonio National Park is a haven for the many capuchin monkeys that make this wildlife preserve their home. The Maasai people have transformed Kenya’s Amboseli National Park into a successful tourist destination for the world to enjoy. Offering guided safaris of the parklands with an emphasis on sustainable conservation, tourists can observe wild herds of gnu, cheetahs, elephants and lions in their natural habitat without being intrusive.

Over a century ago, Banff was only a small town for Canadian railway workers to settle down. Its natural rugged beauty and majestic wildlife compelled officials to designate it as Canada’s first National Park. Today, tourists come from around the world to admire its steep mountain slopes, verdant timberlands and powder blue lakes.
