While growing up surrounded by ranchera music, Helena Vargas dreams of becoming a singer even though her mother Ana Julia forbids her to pursue that career.

Helena is determined to become a famous singer, even if her mother strongly opposes her wishes; as soon as she comes back home, she attends her first audition with Germán.

Helena's mother sends her to a seminary because she wants Helena to become a nun; Hernando quits the Army to move to Mexico with Helena.

At the seminary, Germán pretends to Help Helena, but he has evil plans; she is unaware of the fact that he wants to hurt her.

Germán continues trying to seduce Helena, who little by little gives in to his charms, unaware of who he really is; Luis is unhappy with Ana Julia.

After Helena passes out, she cannot move for some time; when she recovers, she decides to take part on a beauty contest.
