It’s 1947, a time of sensuality, extravagance, humor, and endless expectation. Ivan Heinz, a good-‐looking fop and witty agitator, is just 19 years old. He leaves home to join a group of bohemian friends on an unconventional journey in celebration of freedom and artistic ideals. He lives according to his poetic imagination, his respect for the present moment, and his admiration for surrealism and beautiful women. Life seems wonderful when celebrated in smoke-‐filled rooms sipping lightly-‐intoxicating liqueurs with a lovely, fascinating, and worldly woman at your side. While putting together his first collection of poetry, Ivan rushes headlong into a destructive romance with the independent and bisexual Jana. The couple relish action-‐packed days full of inspiring erotic games, quarrels, bursts of laughter, period dance music, and even dramatic political changes. The new, communist regime begins to show its repressive face. But Ivan and Jana are light-‐footed dancers on the razor’s edge. Tomorrow is of no consequence. What’s important is now and how madly you love me! They scoff at mandatory work regulations, contrive fantastic plans for the future, and survive by petty theft. And they laugh – what would life be without fun, without endless dreaming? After running away to the country, they plan their escape to Paris. But their clash with the authorities comes swiftly, unexpectedly. Yet Ivan always has some crazy plan up his sleeve.… The screenplay for this spirited film was inspired by the youthful memoirs of Egon Bondy (January 20, 1930-‐April 9, 2007), one of the most important figures of the Czechoslovak literary scene and lyricist for The Plastic People of the Universe.
