After senior civil servant Robert Pitt (André Morell) is convicted of murder and sentenced to death, he proposes a deal in an attempt to save himself. In exchange for a reprieve, Pitt offers to reveal the identity of an enemy spy who has knowledge of atomic secrets. Not wanting to spare a murderer, Inspector Brown (Terence Morgan) attempts to find the mysterious spy before they escape the country.
