Anamaria Marinca

Before Romanian actress Anamaria Marinca even became a full-fledged professional actress, she won the Best Female Actor of the Year award at the 2000 Young Actor Gala in Romania. This award came after she studied acting at the University of Fine Arts, Music and Drama. Her first paid job didn't come until 2004, when she appeared in the TV movie "Sex Traffic"; this role garnered her three Best Actress awards. Marinca received further acclaim when she starred in the controversial abortion drama "4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days," which won at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. With her career as an actress solidified, she continued to take parts in big films, such as Francis Ford Coppola's 2007 movie "Youth Without Youth." She also accepted supporting roles in such projects as the popular 2005 BBC miniseries "The Last Enemy," in which she played the lead character's love interest. In 2010, Marinca played a young woman looking to break free of her island's norms in "The Aviatrix of Kazbek." Some of her other notable appearances include 2009's "Storm," about war crimes in the former Yugoslavia, as well as 2009's "Five Minutes of Heaven," the true story of Irish terrorist Alistair Little. Widely recognized in Romania and the rest of Europe, Marinca presented at the 21st European Film Awards and appeared in the TV documentary "The 50 Greatest Television Dramas."
