Jean Painlevé

Practicing physician who turned out his first of many critically acclaimed scientific and educational shorts in 1925. Painleve's subjects included studies of vampire bats and crabs and his work garnered the admiration of the surrealists. He established L'Institut du Cinema Scientifique in 1930.
