Jerry Douglas

A veteran supporting actor, Jerry Douglas is recognized for his role as John Abbott on the venerable soap opera "The Young and the Restless." After a stint in law school and a job as an insurance salesman, Douglas eventually found his calling as an actor in the 1950s. His first TV appearance was in 1952, and during the '60s he made numerous TV appearances in shows like "Gunsmoke" and "Bonanza." He worked almost exclusively on TV in the 1970s, but did make appearances in the Chuck Norris action film "Good Guys Wear Black" and the disaster movie "Avalanche." In the '80s, he became a regular cast member on "The Young and the Restless" and was a fixture on the show for over a decade. After his character was killed off by the writers, he returned briefly as another character, then made occasional appearances as the ghost of John Abbott, who had been the head of a cosmetics company. During his long career, Douglas also had small roles in the Oliver Stone biographical film "JFK" in 1991 and the sensational Frank Perry drama "Mommie Dearest" a decade earlier. Jerry Douglas died on November 9, 2021 in Los Angeles, CA at the age of 88.
