Marcheline Bertrand

Marcheline Bertrand was an actor and humanitarian born Marcia Lynne Bertrand in Blue Island, Illinois. She attended high school in Beverly Hills, California and began pursuing an acting career after graduation. Her first role was on the crime drama "Ironside" (NBC, 1967-75). She met actor Jon Voight and the two were married in 1971. The couple later divorced but had two children who also became actors: James Haven and Angelina Jolie. Bertrand acted in two additional films over the years, "Lookin' to Get Out" (1982) and "The Man Who Loved Women" (1983). In later years, along with her partner, Indigenous activist John Trudell, Bertrand engaged in various humanitarian efforts. Notably, the two founded The All Tribes Foundation which provides financial support to safeguard Native communities and tribal ways of life. She also founded the Give Love Give Life organization to raise awareness for ovarian cancer after she was diagnosed with it in 1999. At 56 years old, Marcheline Bertrand succumbed to breast and ovarian cancer on January 27, 2007 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. One month later a Give Love Give Life concert was held in Los Angeles to raise money for the Women's Cancer Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai.
