Girl is 22 and has spent the entirety of her youth taking care of her sick mother who fled their small oil town to protect them from Girl's dangerous father. A tomboy, Girl has grown up hearing the horrendous stories about her dad, backed by his actions over the years as he tried to hunt them down and ruin their lives. Our story starts when Mama receives a letter from the father - he’s found them and is going to come and kill Mama. Girl's childhood has been ruined by having to take care of and protect Mama from this man. Now she's had enough. She’s going to put an end to it, on her own terms. Armed with her hatchet, she takes the bus to the small town where she was born, intent on killing him – only to discover… someone very recently beat her to the task. But who? And why? She heads into town and meets a mysterious young man at the laundromat - he’s covered in blood and wearing her father’s watch. A fight ensues, but before she can finish the man who killed her father, the town Sheriff breaks it up and arrests her. Conveniently for the young man, the Sheriff is his brother and criminal cohort. The two are collectively known around town as The Brothers. The Brothers take her back to her father’s house where her father supposedly hid a hundred thousand dollars - they believe she knows where he stashed it. She knows nothing about the money, but that doesn’t stop them from torturing her. She escapes, wounded. A local woman known as Drunk Betty finds her and brings her to safety. She discovers that Drunk Betty was her father’s girlfriend and that her father may not have been the sort of man Mama made him out to be. Drunk Betty claims that the money is real, and that he had saved it to give to Girl! In fact, he’d sent a letter to Mama telling her as much. Throwing yet another twist in the tale, Drunk Betty also reveals that The Brothers are, in fact, Mama’s brothers, her uncles. Enraged by all this deceit, she hunts down The Brothers, wanting first the truth and then their blood. Mama finally turns up in town looking for the cash she sent her brothers to fetch. Girl is furious that Mama kept the truth from her all along – that her father wanted to see her and provide for her. Mama fed her lies her entire life. Girl is torn - should she exact revenge on Mama, or be the woman her father clearly wanted her to be?
