The Muppet Show
Raquel Welsh
S3 E11:
Everyone is on a self-improvement kick. Miss Piggy tries to overcome the challenges of being an international sex goddess (she even considers “renouncing the whole image”), and Fozzie works with what he’s learned in group therapy to be more “dominating…aggressive…and decisive (maybe).” In an effort to find his “true self,” Fozzie announces he wants more respect as an “established artiste” and no longer needs to buy friends with laughter. But when he tries to do his monologue, the would-be comedians At the Dance steal his punch lines. Then, when the audience demonstrates how much they want, like and need him—and when special guest star Raquel Welch boosts his confidence—he’s inspired to write the greatest joke in the world! Other memorable moments include the Swedish Chef’s unique way of preparing a Chicken in a Basket, Piggy and Welch’s performance of “I’m a Woman,” and Gonzo’s uplifting performance—while decked out in a fabulous purple tuxedo—of “Jamboree."
