Anna Berger

Veteran stage and screen actress Anna Berger is known for playing matronly and motherly roles. Born in New York City, Berger first worked in television, including parts on episodes of the crime series "Naked City." After taking a break from 1963 until 1974, she appeared in the subway thriller "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three," and began working steadily for the rest of her career. She appeared in the soap opera "Ryan's Hope" and in episodes of the crime shows "Kojak" and "Baretta" as well as the sitcoms "Cagney & Lacey" and "Barney Miller." In 1989 Berger was featured in Woody Allen's murder drama "Crimes and Misdemeanors" as Aunt May, a moral relativist who appears in a crucial flashback sequence. Into the 1990s, Berger continued to make prolific TV appearances, showing up on everything from the sitcom "Murphy Brown" to the medical drama "ER" to the cable comedy "Tracey Takes On." In 2002 Berger appeared in one of her most notable roles, as Cookie Cirillo, a woman who makes the mistake of snubbing Paulie's mother, in the HBO Mafia series "The Sopranos."
