Andrzej Sekuła

Andrzej Sekula's work in the field of cinematography became highly regarded early in his career. A native of Wroclaw, Poland, Sekula began working with then unknown director Quentin Tarantino in the early 1990s and was the cinematographer for Tarantino's first two full-length features the crime films, "Reservoir Dogs" and "Pulp Fiction." Their critical success propelled not only Tarantino's career but also Sekula's reputation as an able budding cinematographer. He would work with some of the more talented Hollywood directors, serving as their cinematographers in the 1990s, including David Mamet on the thriller "Oleanna" and Mary Harron on the cult classic slasher "American Psycho." Sekula began directing his own films in 1998, with the thriller "Fait Accompli," which starred Michael Madsen, whom Sekula had previously worked with on "Reservoir Dogs." Sekula would direct two more films in the 2000s, although his directorial work on the sci fi thriller "Cube: Hypercube" and the thriller"The Pleasure Drivers" would not receive the critical or commercial success that the films he worked on as a cinematographer had enjoyed. In the late 2000s, Sekula created a partnership with another relatively unknown director, Nimrod Antal, and would serve as director of photography on two of his films, the horror thriller"Vacancy" and action thriller "Armored," successfully capturing the dark and brooding tones in both pictures.
