Rene Medvešek

Croatian actor Rene Medvesek is best known to American audiences for his role in the action thriller "The Peacemaker." Medvesek was born in Velika Gorica, Croatia, which was at the time part of Yugoslavia, and first appeared in episodes of the Yugoslavian drama "U registraturi" in 1974. He subsequently appeared in the West German mystery series "Stahlkammer Zürich" in 1985 and the TV movie "Mjesec u djevici" in 1988. In 1988, Medvesek starred as Boris, the lead character in the drama "Vila Orhideja," then appeared in the Slovene film "The Windhunter" in 1989. That same year, he was featured in the World War II drama "Twist of Fate" with Bruce Greenwood. After a small role in the science-fiction thriller "Fatal Sky," Medvesek appeared in the Marvel superhero adaptation "Captain America" in 1990. Medvesek had supporting roles in "Hrvatske katedrale" from 1991 and "Zaghlul and Zaharias: Zagreb in My Life" in 1994. Medvesek's highest-profile American film role was in Mimi Leder's 1997 action thriller "The Peacemaker." Medvesek played one of the terrorist antagonists in the film, which starred George Clooney as a U.S. army officer and Nicole Kidman as a nuclear energy expert aiding him in the search for stolen nuclear weapons. "The Peacemaker" became a hit at the box office in the United States and internationally.
