The year was 1913. It was to be a grand scientific expedition to the high Arctic, the most comprehensive polar research ever undertaken. Instead, the Karluk's motley team of scientists and hard-luck crewmen soon became stuck. Shipwrecked and marooned, they would see illness, injury, deceit, and even murder for over a year.
