Karen Taylor

Comedian Karen Taylor burst on to the pop culture scene when she became a finalist for the Daily Telegraph Open Mic Award in 1999. The exposure gave this sharp-tongued voluptuous humorist a much wider platform than she had previously had, and Taylor subsequently won over more fans when she performed at the annual Edinburgh Festival a year later. While doing live comedy built up her reputation as a talent to watch, Taylor also began writing and performing on the rapid-fire television comedy show "The Sketch Show," a program structured around the talents of Taylor, Lee Mack, Ronni Ancona, Jim Tavaré, and Tim Vine. One of Taylor's most popular characters on the show was that of a dense therapist. After her work on "The Sketch Show," Taylor landed her own program, "Touch Me, I'm Karen Taylor," showcasing a number of sex-crazed characters. In 2008, Taylor made the leap to the big screen in the coming-of-age comedy "Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging," playing the mother of teenage girl Georgia. She later appeared in the comedy pilot "D.O.A." with Kris Marshall, the two actors playing mismatched paramedics who must contend with their very different ways of approaching the world while also dealing with the sometimes messy business of emergency work.
