To the casual observer Joel Reynold (Jason Bateman) seems to have everything. Reynold Extracts, a business he has built from the ground up with its patented brand of culinary extracts, is in the takeover sights of General Mills which should make the "Extract King" a very wealthy and happy man. But chaos is about to rain down on Joel as he rolls out a convoluted scheme to make his sexually disinterested wife Suzie (Kristen Wiig) cheat on him, so he can justify making a move on new employee Cindy (Mila Kunis), unaware she is a sociopath just one step away from having her parole revoked. On the factory floor Step, a machismo-ridden doofus and self-proclaimed "fastest sorter" is about to be seriously undone; Rory, a goth-rock geek continues to spend more time passing out flyers for his band than shuffling extract bottles; and Mary, a bitter slouch at the end of the assembly line, is once again folding her arms and shaking her head rather than keeping the line moving just as a bottleneck occurs. The result is a chain of accidents that cost poor Step a portion of his manhood! Enter the opportunistic con-artist Cindy who woos the otherwise-loyal Step and convinces him, with the help of bus bench lawyer Joe Adler (KISS' Gene Simmons), to sue for millions, regardless of the fact that doing so will cost Joel the factory!
