It's a US naval tradition that crews' families are occasionally invited to spend a few days on board, to see how their loved ones live while they are away from them. The tradition is called Operation Tiger, and Maddy Dolan sees this time on her dad's aircraft carrier USS Constellation as an opportunity to persuade him to give up his life in the navy, because his family needs him more.
