After his father passes away in a mysterious plane crash, attorney Nick George gets the opportunity of a lifetime when he is offered the position of a family lawyer to the Darlings, one of New York's wealthiest and most influential families.

In order to uncover his father's killer, Nick takes the help of an aeroplane mechanic and an aficionado; Juliet refuses to take part in the family photo shoot, alongside trained lions; Patrick is pressurised by Tripp to announce his candidacy.

After Patrick begins his senatorial campaign, a blackmailer demands ransom for a sex tape, featuring a member of the Darlings, thereby plunging Nick into full damage-control mode; Patrick is in despair after ending his affair with Carmelita.

Tripp convinces Nick to travel to an Italian vineyard to meet a private detective who might have more information about his father's death; Upon finding out about the trip, Karen and Freddy tag along; Letitia makes a shocking confession to Tripp.

Nick finally meets Tripp's nemesis, Simon Elder and finds out that they have a lot in common; twins Jeremy and Juliet try to outdo each other by throwing separate lavish birthday parties; Brian Jr confesses his paternity secret to Brian's wife.

Tripp comes face-to-face with Simon Elder in a poker game, during which the latter promises Nick to provide information about his father's death if he could persuade Tripp to give up his most prized possession.
