Investigative journalist Martin Boudot explores major environmental issues around the world including contamination of rivers, air pollution, radioactivity, illegal exploitation of resources, and toxic waste.
EPISODE 1
Indonesia, The World's Most Polluted River
The Citarum River in Indonesia is the most polluted river in the world. One of the main polluters is hiding in the closet: the fashion industry. Five hundred textile factories discharge their wastewater directly into the Citarum.
EPISODE 2
South Africa's Toxic Townships
Johannesburg is considered the most uranium-contaminated city in the world. Waste dumps from around 600 abandoned mines sit next to residential communities, blowing polluted dust into homes and contaminating the soil and water supplies. To get a better sense of the problem, Martin Boudot and his team of researchers investigate. Equipped with a Geiger counter, they uncover some dangerous realities
EPISODE 3
Paraguay's Poisoned Fields
To feed livestock around the planet, the soybean industry is destroying Paraguay's forests, as well as subjecting surrounding inhabitants to pesticide poisoning. Journalists and scientists work together to find evidence of contamination.
Soil Threat
The use of fertiliser has become essential to modern agriculture. In Morocco, pollution from phosphate mines poisons the drinking supply. Cadmium in fertilisers may be contaminating crops and entering the food chain.
Coal in the Lungs
Each year, 500,000 Europeans die prematurely due to air pollution; one of the main causes is the coal still used in a dozen European countries; citizens fight for the right to have breathable air.
Cursed Uranium
From Niger to Europe, experts reveal the extent of the radioactive pollution; in France, citizens denounce the pollution of the largest uranium conversion plant in Europe.
