The recruits face an intense start to the course, crawling through sand in the blistering 40 degree heat, before entering a chamber where they're exposed to CS gas. Next, they must fight, evoking mixed emotions.TV star Pete Wick's regular regimen of partying and cigarettes sees him struggle whilst 60-year-old Olympian Fatima Whitbread, the oldest recruit in any series, impresses the DS.

When recruits jump from a helicopter in pairs Pete Wicks finds himself knocked unconscious, before recovering and swimming back to shore. Next they take the lives of their teammate in their hands as one freefalls from a 150ft cliff, being stopped from crashing to the ground by their partner.

The celebrities now face a series of tasks which will test their resilience to its limits. In searing heat, they must push a one tonne broken-down Jeep through thick sand in teams led by sibling rivals Curtis and AJ Pritchard.

With hand-to-hand combat and split-second decisions about whether to shoot in a simulated warzone, recruits are pushed to their mental limits. Shannon Courtney comes face to face with her anger issues and Ferne Mcann confronts her fear of the dark.

Split into teams led by ex-footballer Ashley Cain and actress Maisie Smith, they compete to survive in three brutal challenges, testing their leadership skills. First both teams must construct a zipline and get their equipment across a body of water without it getting wet. Next, they go head-to-head in one of the most violent tasks on the course.

In this penultimate phase of selection, the DS prepare the remaining celebrities for life on the run behind enemy lines. The Driving Ambush task triggers traumatic memories for former Strictly pro dancer AJ Pritchard. Boxer, Shannon Courtenay, fights for survival during a brutal beasting.
