George Meyer

Eagle scout, Harvard man, and comedy writer George Meyer is also a multiple Emmy award winner for his work on "The Simpsons." Attending Harvard University in the mid-1970s, Meyer was the president of the renowned humor magazine The Harvard Lampoon. After graduating in 1978 and working various jobs, Meyer was hired on "Late Night with David Letterman" on the recommendation of former Lampoon writers on the staff. After two years with "Late Night," Meyer left to work on the short-lived but memorable "The New Show" and "Not Necessarily the News." He also briefly wrote for "Saturday Night Live," although he says his writing style never quite fit the mold there. He soon fled New York for Boulder, Colorado, where he began the legendary Army Man humor magazine. This caught the eye of TV producer Sam Simon, who hired him--and fellow Army Man writers Jon Vitti and John Swartzwelder--to write for Matt Groening's new animated show, "The Simpsons." Though only credited with writing a few episodes of the show, Meyer was a central figure in the show's extensive rewriting. Meyer is credited, along with Swartzwelder, for the bizarre, off-the-wall humor that marked the later seasons of the series.
