Sophie Vavasseur

Actress Sophie Vavasseur came to performing early, making a splash in her native Ireland on stage and in television commercials. This early experience brought her to the attention of Australian filmmaker Bruce Beresford, who cast her in the title role of "Evelyn," a 2003 feature starring Pierce Brosnan in the true story of a desperate, single and unemployed father struggling to rescue his children from an orphanage in 1950s Ireland. Vavasseur received high critical praise for her role, including a nomination for a Young Artist Award. Two years later, Vavasseur co-starred with Milla Jovovich in the zombie horror sequel "Resident Evil: Apocalypse," based on the enormously popular video game. In 2007, now in her mid-teens, Vavasseur began working more steadily. She had three credits that year, including a supporting role in the romantic comedy "Becoming Jane," a fictional biography of Jane Austen starring Anne Hathaway and James McAvoy. The actress's association with Austen continued with a small role in Andrew Davies' made-for-television adaptation of Austen's early novel "Northanger Abbey," featuring Felicity Jones and JJ Feild. Also that year, Vavasseur co-starred as Nell Trent opposite Toby Jones and the renowned Derek Jacobi in another made-for-television literary adaptation, of Charles Dickens' "The Old Curiosity Shop." Vavasseur returned to feature films with the starring role in the Spanish-made demonic possession horror film "Exorcismus."
