Eva Eastwood

Eva Eastwood is a Swedish singer/songwriter with a retro style that ranges from rockabilly and rock & roll to traditional country in the Nashville mold. She made her album debut in 2001 and eventually hit the upper reaches of the Swedish charts in 2008 with her sixth album, Well Well Well. Born Eva Östlunds in Örebro, Sweden, she cites influences that include Melanie Safka, Ruth Brown, and J.J. Cale. She also found inspiration in the Nashville music scene of the United States, which she visited a few times prior to launching her music career. In 1999 Eastwood was offered a recording deal with the Swedish label Tail Records; formed a backing band for herself, the Major Keys, originally comprised of Jyrki Juvonen (guitar), Frank Snow (piano), Jan Östlund (bass), and Tage Phikkanen (drums); and proceeded to make her album debut that same year with Good Things Can Happen. Subsequent albums released by Tail Records include The Good Life I Have (2001), Hot Chicks & Cool Cats (2001), Roots Revival (2003), and En Ny Stil i Stan (2004). The latter album, her first Swedish-language effort, was also her first bona fide hit, reaching the Swedish albums chart after Eastwood performed live on the popular television show Allsång På Skansen in 2005. Upon breaking into Swedish mainstream consciousness, Eastwood switched to a bigger label, Bonnier Music, and reached the Top 30 with her next album, Ton of Heart (2006), a return to English-language material. Her next album, Well Well Well (2008), was far and away her biggest success to date. Going all the way to number two on the albums chart, Well Well Well spawned the hit single "My My My" and established Eastwood as a rising star on the Swedish music scene. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
