Roald & Beatrix: Tail of the Curious Mouse
Beatrix can’t finish her Three Blind Mice. Her eyesight is going, she frets over Herdwick sheep and she still hasn’t killed Sago the duck for Christmas dinner. Two hundred miles away, life is changing for Roald. The death of his father and mother Sofie’s suggestion of boarding school prove too much. Roald packs his Beatrix Potter books, a Christmas letter from dead sister Astri and runs away. A disgruntled Beatrix refuses to wear spectacles to aid her writing. Long suffering husband William suggests she get the book finished so she can buy Troutbeck Farm for her Herdwicks. Sofie finds Roald at the train station. They strike a deal. If he considers school, she’ll take him to meet Beatrix Potter. Beatrix continues to procrastinate, as publisher Anne Landy appears. She has come to collect Beatrix’s manuscript… Roald and Sofie arrive at Hill Top Farm. Sofie explains to Roald he must make his own stories and leaves him to meet his hero alone. Sheltering in a café, Sofie’s waitress offers comfort in reading tea leaves. Great things await Roald. Anne suggests she and Beatrix childproof her manuscript. Instead, Beatrix confronts the little boy in her garden. Roald surprises Beatrix with his experiences of loss. Once Roald leaves, Beatrix finds Astri’s letter—"please could you get Roald a new Beatrix Potter book…" Beatrix returns to Anne and refuses the changes; children are resilient. Anne relents. Roald and Sofie make their way home. Roald decides on more adventures—the first being school.
