British actor Frank Dillane rose to stardom in 2015 after appearing in Ron Howard's biographical drama "In the Heart of the Sea." Born in London and raised in East Sussex, Dillane was fortunate enough to be surrounded by a positive, creative environment; his mother ran a theater company, and his father, Stephen Dillane, was an accomplished TV and movie actor. Having grown up around acting, Dillane set his sights on following in his father's footsteps. He made his film debut at the age of 6 in the war movie "Welcome to Sarajevo" (1997), and followed that up by playing Tom Riddle in 2009's "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." However, just as Dillane's career was gaining steam, he decided to take a break from professional acting to concentrate on studying the craft. He enrolled in the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2010, and spent the next three years studying with some of the best acting teachers in England. Upon graduation in 2013, Dillane landed the role of the young sailor Owen Coffin in Ron Howard's maritime epic "In the Heart of the Sea." Based on the historical novel by author Nathaniel Philbrick, the film follows the trials of a doomed 19th century whale ship that served as the inspiration for Herman Melville's classic Moby Dick. 2015 was also the year Dillane nabbed a role in the cast of "The Walking Dead" (AMC, 2010-) spin-off series, "Fear the Walking Dead" (AMC, 2015-). Dillane has also had roles in Astral" (2018), and "How to Build a Girl" (2019).
