Incident at Abilene
S4, E30: The drive over, the drovers are ready to celebrate when they are quarantined in an Abilene hotel because one of them has smallpox. The trail drive reaches Abilene and Gil Favor sells his beeves for a handsome profit. Most of his men, their pockets full of cash, are about to celebrate when they find themselves quarantined for four days in a hotel because one drover, Huggins, has come down with smallpox. It takes a sheriff and 15 deputies to keep the drovers from escaping. Vada Nordquist, a gambler since her teens, and Jack Harris, a drifter who knows most of Gil's drovers, manage to get into the hotel with a deck of cards and a sack full of whisky. After four hectic days, the drovers are penniless, tired from constantly trying to escape and ready to start another drive with a new herd of beeves.
