Eagles of the Republic

George Fahmy (Fares Fares), Egypt’s most celebrated movie star, is pressured by the country’s highest authorities to star in a government-backed prestige film. Fahmy reluctantly accepts, only to find himself drawn into the inner sanctum of political power. As he begins a dangerous affair with the general’s mysterious wife, he becomes ensnared in a world where desire, loyalty, and cinematic illusion collide with forces far beyond his control. Eagles of the Republic, the third in filmmaker Tarik Saleh’s trilogy of political thrillers (following The Nile Hilton Incident and Cairo Conspiracy), was Sweden's Academy Award entry for 2026. The film had its world premiere in Competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, and was nominated for a record-breaking eleven Swedish Guldbagges, eventually winning six categories including Best Film, Best Male Actor, and Best Screenplay.
