The film tells the story of a tragic date – May 18, 1944 – when Crimean Tatars were deported from their land on the order of Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin. The protagonist is a pilot, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Amet-Khan Sultan, who goes on vacation to his hometown Alupka, where he witnesses the tragedy of his nation.
