Buford (Academy Award winner Gary Oldman) and Billy (Skeet Ulrich) are childhood friends who have been sentenced to prison. They manage to bust their way out, going in opposite directions with a plan to meet up again in Utah. On the way, Billy stumbles across a car accident and manages to rescue a baby from the doomed vehicle, which endears him to a waitress (Radha Mitchell).
