Shades of Fear

Set in the 1950s, a young West Indian woman, Gabriel Angel (Rakie Ayola), takes destiny into her own hands when she embarks on a trans-Atlantic cruise liner bound for England. On board, she meets an eclectic group of people who in turn have an incredible impact on her life. The collection includes a charismatic Scottish photographer, Duncan Stewart (Jonathan Pryce), who is not all or indeed anything he seems; a highly regarded art historian, Professor Rex Goodyear (John Hurt), who has a mysterious past and dubious connection to Duncan; and two missionaries (Vanessa Redgrave and Dorothy Tutin) who share a hidden secret. As Gabriel unravels the tangle of lies and deceptions surrounding these strangers, the young woman learns new truths about herself and changes the fates of those around her.
