God used a cruel Pharaoh who treated the Hebrews brutally. Unable to bear their suffering any longer, they finally "cried out" in anguish and God heard their cry and initiated His plan to deliver them not only from slavery to Pharaoh but from their bondage to Egypt's story. As they journeyed to the Promised Land, they would rediscover the story of their God, the God who heard their cry. They would once again become the people of His story, His partners in restoring shalom.
