The Crossroads
Logan’s mom passed a year ago to the day. Since then, he’s been alone. He comes to a crossroads, literally and metaphorically, and takes a chance to help another. He picks up a hitchhiker, Star, in failing health. Logan provides a meal and a roof, but with her attitude, he hopes she’ll be gone in the morning. She is not. A fever and cough keep her bedridden. Logan offers his place as long as she needs. Star recuperates but is wary of Logan’s elusiveness. He leaves to work at his farm in the morning and returns in the afternoon without much explanation. Logan takes Star horseback riding. She resumes writing music and singing, telling a little about her past. Logan opens up about his past, but they still lack trust. Each crosses established boundaries that put both on edge. Star should leave. But, COVID has restricted travel. The long journey to Lordsburg has given them time to talk. It’s given them time to trust. They reveal their darkest secrets, laying the groundwork for a relationship.
