Walden

Walden

Available on MUBI, Prime Video
A compilation of diaries, notes and sketches by Jonas Mekas, the godfather of American underground cinema, this film presents a unique view of the world as captured on a handheld Bolex camera. Born in Lithuania and experiencing the hardships for WWII firsthand, Mekas sought refuge in New York City and soon became a fixture in the city's film scene. With close ties to avant-garde cinema, Mekas made a name for himself by curating controversial film screenings, commenting on the art of filmmaking and creating installations utilizing elements from the movies. An important figure in the history of American filmmaking, Walden documents this talented artist's take on the various subjects of the period.
