Nova (Rutina Wesley) returns to Atlanta to visit Dr. Robert DuBois (Alimi Ballard), where they attend a dinner party, which doesn't go as planned when Nova clashes with Robert's friend. Charley's (Dawn-Lyen Gardner) authentic magazine interview finally gets published and Remy (Dondré T. Whitfield) expresses that the farmers have questions about some of what they read. Charley attends a potluck to address their concerns. She then uses the opportunity to tell Remy how she feels. Charley also talks to Darla (Bianca Lawson) about withholding information in her father's will. Later, Micah (Nicholas L. Ashe) sees Davis (Timon Kyle Durrett) on a date, which leads to an honest conversation about Micah's resentment. The exchange opens the door for Micah to finally reveal the details of his traumatizing encounter with a police officer. Finally, Violet has a health issue and Ralph Angel (Kofi Siriboe) and Darla (Bianca Lawson) take a big step.

Ralph Angel (Kofi Siriboe) is left devastated by Darla's (Bianca Lawson) news. Her mother offers comfort by admitting to her own mistakes. Meanwhile, two farmers visit Charley (Dawn-Lyen Gardner), where they reveal the Landrys have threatened to pull their leases if they continue to mill with her. She then calls a local farmer, but when he makes his romantic intentions clear during their business meeting, she becomes unsettled. She and Micah (Nicholas L. Ashe) have a heart-to-heart where Micah reveals his objection over a Confederate General's sword on display at his school. Later, a local activist pushes Nova (Rutina Wesley) to join the task force in deciding how a block grant is spent, but she resists. After their conversation, she attends a party where an acquaintance objects to her method of activism. Finally, Violet (Tina Lifford) tells Hollywood (Omar Dorsey) her diagnosis, and he is determined to help.

Ralph Angel (Kofi Siriboe) reveals Darla's secret (Bianca Lawson) to his family, and upon hearing the news, Charley (Dawn-Lyen Gardner) ends her employment. Meanwhile, Micah (Nicholas L. Ashe) takes action against his school by placing an open letter to the Administration on every student's locker. The school complies with his request, but they still issue a suspension. Hollywood (Omar J. Dorsey) promises to use the potential money from his class-action lawsuit to fulfill Violet's (Tina Lifford) wish list. Charley and Remy (Dondrà T. Whitfield) get an unexpected visit from Jacob Boudreaux (Lea Coco) and they have a heated exchange about Charley poaching his farmers. Surprisingly, he suggests they form a partnership. Nova (Rutina Wesley) is shocked to learn that someone is pitching an article about the internal problems at Charley's mill. Charley agrees to publicly set the record straight, but first she goes directly to the source. Upon entering the Boudreaux Mill, Jacob says he's been expecting her.
