Miguel Ángel Silvestre

Miguel Ángel Silvestre rose to fame in his native Spain with performances in pirate hijacking drama "Alakrana" (Telecinco, 2010), Pedro Almodovar's "I'm So Excited" (2013) and period romance "Velvet" (Antena 1, 2013-16) before crossing over to the English-language market with recurring roles in "Sense8" (Netflix, 2015-17) and "Narcos" (Netflix, 2015-). Born in Castello de la Plana, Spain, Silvestre initially pursued a career as a professional tennis player before injury cut his ambitions short. Encouraged by his theater director aunt, he went on to study drama, modern dance and acrobatics and make his on-screen debut in a 2004 episode of sitcom "Mis adorables vecinos" (Antena 3, 2004-06). A year later he landed the regular role of Nacho in murder mystery "Motivos personales" (Telecinco, 2005) and appeared on the big screen for the first time in coming-of-age "Vida y color" (2005). Having briefly showed up in boxing drama "A golpes" (2005), Silvestre then took center stage when he played felon/fighter Daniel in "The Distance" (2006), and went on to take further lead roles in cancer story "3:19" (2008) and romantic drama "Zhao" (2008). After pulling double duty in thriller "Reflections" (2008), starring as both a serial killer and his wrongly convicted twin brother, he returned to television as ill-fated drug trafficker El Duque in gritty Colombian series "Sin tetas no hay paraiso" (Canal Caracol, 2006-2010) and the real-life captain of a ship hijacked by Somalian pirates in the miniseries "Alakrana" (Telecinco, 2010). Central roles in early 20th Century-set romance "L'imbroglio nel lenzuolo" (2010), fantasy horror "Verbo" (2011) and erotic thriller "Dark Impulse" (2012) followed, as did key parts in gambling comedy drama "Winning Streak" (2012), drug-smuggling drama "All Is Silence" (2012) and neo-Nazi tale "Scorpion In Love" (2013). Silvestre then starred as fashion empire heir Alberto Marquez in the big-budget mid-20th Century love story "Velvet" (Antena, 2013-16) and was cast as the Groom in Pedro Almodovar's bawdy sky-high comedy "I'm So Excited" (2013). His international profile received a major boost when he was cast as closeted telenovela star Lito Rodriguez in the Wachowski siblings' ambitious globe-trotting sci-fi "Sense8" (Netflix, 2015-17), and further still when he joined the third season of Pablo Escobar drama "Narcos" (Netflix, 2015-) as a cartel money launderer. Silvestre then ventured into the recording booth for the first time to voice matador El Primero in the bull-fighting animation "Ferdinand" (2017).
