On a hot day, Emily Elizabeth's regular babysitter comes because Mrs. Howard has to work at the library. He wants to stay outside and watch television, but Emily Elizabeth wants to have fun playing in the sprinkler outside. Evan is lured outside by the prospect of impressing a cute girl, but he spends so much time trying to impress her that he doesn't pay any attention to what Emily Elizabeth or puppy Clifford want to do. After his attempts at impressing the girl fail, he finally decides that playing in the sprinkler isn't such a bad idea and then learns that the best thing he can do to impress the girl is to just be himself.

The beginning of the new school year brings new neighbors for the Howards. The animals excitedly wonder if they have a pet...until they're alarmed by a strange wailing noise coming from the apartment. Rumors of a monster are fed by the discovery of an enormous tooth and the disappearance of Flo. When Clifford finally meets the friendly new family, he finds that all his fears of them housing a "monster" are unfounded. In the end, Clifford and the gang realize that you should get to know people before you decide what they're like. The kittens, Flo and Zo, are staying with the Howards while their owner is away for the weekend. Clifford wants to be a good host but the kittens are not the most considerate house guests. They make a mess and don’t clean up after themselves. They’re rude about food. And worst of all they break Clifford’s favorite toy in the whole world and don’t apologize. Clifford’s feelings are hurt big time but Flo and Zo don’t comprehend their mistake until they see how upset Clifford is. Flo and Zo apologize and help set things straight.

When Emily Elizabeth asks for help figuring out what's wrong with her flower garden from Jenny, a horticulturist who happens to be blind, she lets her guide dog, Bibi, play with Clifford. Clifford is happy to have a new friend, but when she later ignores him when she's busy assisting Jenny, Clifford doesn't understand why she won't play with him. All of Clifford's friends begin to think that Bibi must be some kind of snoot and Norville even goes so far as to spy on her when she goes about her daily business. Eventually, Clifford simply just asks Bibi what's going on and meanwhile, Jenny solves the problem that Emily Elizabeth was having with her flowers.

When Nina brings a new squirrel toy to the dog run with Jorge, he doesn't want to share it because he hasn't even had a chance to play with it himself yet. Rather than say so, he worries that the other dogs will be upset and insist on playing with the toy, so he tries to hide it and claim that he doesn't have it all.

Emily Elizabeth has gone to her friend Nina's for a sleepover and Clifford seems inconsolable. At first Daffodil is annoyed with him and just wants to be in peace, but her heart soon gets the better of her and she decides to help Clifford out. Flo and Zo come over too and everyone works together to keep Clifford from being lonely so that he'll go to sleep because Emily Elizabeth will be there waiting for him in the morning.
