When Josh’s girlfriend, Claire, dumps him and tells him she’s pretty sure he’s gay, he’s mostly worried that the sundae for two that’s just arrived at their table is suddenly pretty humiliating. Josh seeks out his best mate Tom, who is busy at work googling giraffes and planning to dump his own overbearing girlfriend - and Josh’s nemesis - Niamh.

Josh agrees to go out on a date with Geoffrey. Meanwhile, nosy Auntie Peggy arrives to help care for Josh’s unstable mom Rose, and Josh’s dad Alan interrupts the date to ask Josh return home to check on Rose.

Josh’s Dad Alan and Auntie Peggy find out that Josh and Geoffrey are dating. When Aunt Peggy insists Josh attend church with her and the family, more people learn Josh is gay. Best friend Tom has big news of his own to share.

Tom and Claire's budding romance motivates Josh to flirt with a nice guy; mom Rose decides to jump into the dating pool with an online dating service.

Geoffrey takes Josh to a football match, but Josh knows little about the game and is humiliated by Geoffrey's fanatic behavior. Rose and Alan argue about Alan's younger girlfriend, Mae.

Rose’s celebration plans for Josh's 21st birthday go a bit awry as they plan for a funeral, but it definitely turns into a birthday Josh won’t ever forget.
